Prey base
Spotted deer herds are the heartbeat of this dry deciduous forest. Their alarm calls often reveal a leopard or tiger on the move.
Spotted deer are the animal you will most often photograph — and the one that tells you when a carnivore is close. Watch the herd’s heads: freeze, stare and bark mean something is moving in the dhok.
Open floors and water edges hold them. They are the prey base that makes tiger restoration possible here. Do not feed them from the gypsy.
